Alaska Conservation Voters releases 2010 Legislative Scorecard

Alaska Conservation Voters names Legislators of the Year for 2010

August 05, 2010

Anchorage- Alaska Conservation Voters is pleased to announce the release of their 2010 Legislative Scorecard.  This year’s scorecard recognizes those legislators who stood out in the 2010 legislative cycle as exemplary examples of leadership on pro-conservation issues as well as those who have disappointed us with their positions.

Senators Lesil McGuire, R-Anchorage, and Bill Wielechowski, D-Anchorage, received Alaska Conservation Voters’ award for Senators of the Year.  In the House, Alaska Conservation Voters recognized Representatives Charisse Millett, R-Anchorage, and Bryce Edgmon, D-Dillingham as Representatives of the Year.  These four legislators’ vision, leadership, and individual efforts to advance clean energy will put Alaska on course for major benefits in the future.  The 2010 Legislative Scorecard gives an in-depth look at some of the conservation achievements of these four legislators.

Also included in the scorecard is a brief description of the legislation that Alaska Conservation Voters  focused on during the 2010 legislative session.  Working with numerous allies, Voters realized many pro-conservation successes this year, particularly in the realm of clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency.  Two of our three legislative priorities passed into law during the 2010 session and we are proud to have helped in the development of long term energy planning.

‘”Alaskans have a choice for their energy future, and they want clean, renewable sources of energy that save money and create jobs.  Alaska Conservation Voters is committed to holding public officials accountable and this scorecard provides a tool by which conservation-minded voters can measure their legislators,” said Caitlin Higgins, Executive Director for Alaska Conservation Voters.
